When you decide to embark in Real Estate Investing, one of the most important things you’ll need to decide is what kind of education is the most important and most beneficial to you. Plenty of people think that if they know a little bit about the market, and they have some street smarts when it comes to real estate, that they can just jump into investing, but the truth is, you need to get a formal education. Having a support team, and a plethora of resources at your fingertips can make a huge difference when you are looking to reroute your investments into real estate. And while there are plenty of free resources available to you, and you should use them, we would ultimately suggest that you take the time to investigate the kind of program that would be of value to you! We would never push any particular curriculum on you, but here are our suggestions for what you should look for in an investing program.
Mentors
As with most anything else, one of the best ways to learn about a new industry is to find others who are doing it well and ask them to mentor you. You can learn a lot from others experience, success, and failures. Finding a program that has mentors can be a life changer. Some mentors charge for access to their know-how. But some programs will offer mentors for free. A good mentor will give you tools, assignments, and teach you about the best mechanics for investing. Mentors take a helicopter view and can often anticipate mistakes and places you need to grow long before you can. Their input could save you time, money, and a lot of resources. A mentor is also a cheerleader. They can see the end game when you can’t and they can offer support when you feel like giving up.
Resources
When you’re looking into a real estate education, resources are your most important asset. This is one of those instances where where knowledge holds such great power. When you are looking at the curriculum, make sure that they offer a lot of resources. Things to consider are worksheets, books, blogs, and videos that specialize in classes for the kind of real estate you are looking at getting into. Workshops are also something to consider. If a curriculum doesn’t offer at least most of these things, I would suggest that you keep looking!
Meet Ups
One of the other things to consider is how many interpersonal events the program offers. Things such as one on one meet ups, conferences, and webinars could change the way that you approach investing. Conferences allow you to submerge yourself in the thing that you are learning in a condensed, concentrated way. They also allow you to network with others who are working hard to develop their real estate education. You can meet influencers, mentors, and experts in your field and you’ll learn a lot more from them than you will from a google search. Going to conferences and meet ups will also position you to encounter new education opportunities. Going to networking events always builds your business base and credibility. Often times, this is where you find like minded, successful investors and they naturally can become investors in your deals.
