Moving to a new city is always a rush of excitement and joy and frustration and exhaustion. The moving truck arrives, and you can’t find the boxes that belong in the kitchen, and sometimes the idea of having to make dinner is more exhausting that picking up your life, driving half way across the country, and unloading a billion and a half boxes. So for those of you relocating to the Charlotte, North Carolina area, we are here to give you a hand! Offering our suggestions for what we consider to be some of the best restaurants in the Charlotte area.
Stegall Smoked Turkey at Marshville Rockstore BBQ
There aren’t many places that we return to time and time again. But Stegall’s Smoked Turkey is one of the best BBQ places in this part of the state. And North Carolina is serious about their BBQ! They have a great mix of different meats, delicious sauces, and yummy sides. This is an easy going, down home place where you eat off of styrofoam plates and you won’t blink an eye when you get the bill because their prices are rock bottom. Be prepared to drop about $10 per person on dinner! If you are unsure of what to order, they are always willing to offer great suggestions and since I’ve tried everything on their menu, I can easily say that you won’t be disappointed. I would always suggest checking their hours and being aware that they close around 7:30 each night.

BBQ King Drive In
When Guy Fieri comes to your city and says that one of our your restaurants has the Best Thing He Ever Ate, you start to pay attention. And BBQ King is clearly at the top of its class! This classic drive in, has the perfect mix of old school charm and incredible food. Their unique BBQ chicken is unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else, as it is fried chicken that is then dipped in sauce. Their sides are the classics; coleslaw, beans, fries, hush-puppies, etc. And it’s a good thing that you don’t have to get out of your car, because if you did, they might need a wheelbarrow to get you off the premises!

Sweet Union Market
The best place to get authentic Mexican food is from actual Hispanics. Sure, Americans can make a mean margarita, and we love our queso. But if you are looking for true, south of the border, authentic Mexican food, there is no better place to get it than the Sweet Union Flea Market. Located just south of Charlotte, in Monroe, this market is a beautiful mix of classic Mexican food, sold out of food trucks, and a large market that carries all the things that you would need to make your favorite dishes at home. Barrels of spices and piles of fresh fruit surround you as you munch on churros and pork rinds and sip horchata. And the every single food truck has delectable tacos that are sure to take you straight back to Mexico. I personally have tried every food vendor, and I can say without a doubt that they are all equally delicious and their prices cannot be beat at about $3 a taco. The market is open from 8am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
This is by no means a comprehensive list of the best restaurants in the Charlotte area! There is no way that we could name them all. But here are some of the places that we think makes Charlotte unique and such a vibrant city. Bon Appetite!
